Are first floor apartments significantly more energy efficient than second floor apartments?

Question by Jenny: Are first floor apartments significantly more energy efficient than second floor apartments?
I applied for a pre-lease and as of now they only have a second floor. My roommate prefers a first floor apartment because she heard that they use less electricity. We are in Texas and will be spending two summers in the apartment, so it is important that the apartment stays cool. I understand that a second floor apartment will be warmer, but will it be significant, or just slightly? How much would the difference be in the electric bills?

A first floor would be better in the summer, because cold aire falls and warm air raises. My mother lives in an apartment on the second and floor and it always hotter than the apartment under her. I spent a month in Texas when I was a teen and I would never come back in July was miserable
